Paphos is ideal for a 'chill-out' beach or poolside holiday but also offers a number of places to visit, opportunities for more activity and a wide range of different kinds of countryside within easy reach.
See the Links, Car Tours, Walking and Golf pages for more information on many of the suggestions below.
Pool and Beach holiday
The apartment overlooks a shared large pool with poolside space for
lounger chairs. Additional loungers are provided in the apartment block.
The municipal beach (Blue Flag with views to the harbour and fortress) is 3/5 minutes away at the end of the road.
Coral Bay, another nearby well-known beach area, is accessible either by car or by buses which run regularly from the end of the road.
There is a water park with slides and chutes: Paphos
Aphrodite Water Park. You can sometiems get discount vouchers from supermarkets and the CTO. They also sometimes repay bus travel from Kato Paphos on production of your ticket.
For those staying during the winter months it is possible to join the indoor facilities at the nearby Alexander the Great Hotel and use the heated indoor pool.
Culture
Paphos is the location of a number of historical sites, including the World Heritage Tombs of the Kings, and within easy driving distance of many others. It also has a number of fascinating museums.
Many monasteries and churches are accessible from Paphos.
The "Birthplace of Aphrodite" is 20 minutes distant by car.
There are English-language cinemas in the town and concerts are held in front of the medieval fort and at the ancient Odeon.
Grand, wild Nature
The Troodos mountains, some 2 hours drive away, reach heights of nearly 2000m at Mount Olympus and offer a different world of cool in summer and snow in winter. They are covered, in many areas, with forests, including in the famous 'Cedar Valley'
Paphos is also close to the Akamas Nature Reserve, accessible by car (on limited roads), bike or foot. This is a wonderful, wild local walking area, including 'Lara' beach where the turtles come to lay their eggs in August. Aphrodite’s Baths are in the Akamas.
The local hills inland from Paphos offer glorious views down to the coast and are host to carpets of flowers in spring, butterflies, the site of reservoirs and the Adonis Falls.
Food, Drink and Nightlife
The great thing about an apartment holiday is that you can buy the local
produce to make your own meals according to your own times and wishes.
However, there is also a wide range of differing restaurants in the
area, from typical Cypriot tavernas to take-aways, from beach-side restaurants
to those out in the country or in the town centre.
"Nightlife Street" (which also has many daytime restaurants
and bars) is a 10-minute walk from the apartments.
There are several wineries in the locality that can be visited for free
wine-tasting, stocking up on good Cyprus wines for your holiday and to
take home. Particularly recommended is Vouni Panayia Winery, in the hills
on the way to Panayia/Panagia (birthplace of Makarios) and near Chrissoroyatissa
Monastery, (www.vounipanayiawinery.com email: vounipanayia@hotmail.com.)
They have an excellent visitor centre with a restaurant and local specialities.
Local Shopping
There is a delightful local colonnaded shopping area with piazza-style
restaurants at the end of the road (4-5 minutes) before the beach. Additionally,
there are restaurants on the beach side of the road. It is also
only approximately 10-20 minutes walk to the central tourist area of Kato
Paphos.
The apartment is around 4-5 Km from the upper town of Paphos with the
market and larger shops. There is a parking area not far from the market
but it can also be reached by regular buses from the end of the road.
There is a supermarket near the harbour and a number of hypermarkets dotted around the town.
Fishing/Diving
There are fishing boats to hire from the old harbour, including for
deep-sea fishing.
There are many dive-schools in the Paphos area. Try Marine
Divers, Cyprus in Coral Bay or Cydive,
in Paphos and Coral Bay.
There is also diving organised from the beach hotels, 10 minutes walk from
the apartment.
Golf/Tennis
There is a choice of four golf courses: Elea, Aphrodite Hills and Secret
Valley 18-hole championship golf courses – 15-30 mins.; Minthis Hills
(Tsada), 18-hole – 15 mins. All have club facilities. Par around 71/72.
See the Paphos Golf page for more information
Only a 2-minute walk to tennis courts in the Limnaria complex.
Cycling
It is possbile to hire out cycles from sea-front shops in the summer season. Although the busy roads do not give much quarter for cyclists, there are many roads which are very quiet and the centre of Kato Paphos is now partially provided with separate cycle lanes (often also used by pedestrians.)
Some companies will arrange excursions which take you and your bike
to the tops of the mountains so that you can make a day of it and ride
down, or around the Akamas Peninsula. They then pick you up later. Try

Also look out for the Glass Bottomed Boat and catamarans from the harbour.
From January to March, on Mount Olympus, only 2 hours drive away, skiing
and snowboarding!
Take a Jeep Safari around the Akamas Peninsula or up into the mountains.
